Hi, I recall being advised some time ago that Turbo Builders Bog doesn’t adhere well to CCA treated timber. Can you tell me if the same applies to LOSP treated timber?
Thanks, Richard. (13.2.2020)

That is a great question and deserves a thorough answer. CCA is Chrome Copper Arsenate treatment. Copper salts, in particular copper naphthenate (Metalex green wood treatment among others) are specific inhibitors of the Builder';s Bog curing reaction. So the interface between the CCA timber and the Builder’s Bog repair will possibly remain uncured, with consequent adhesion problems between the two. I say “may” because the level of treatment (H1 to H4 etc) and residual CCA powder from the impregnation baths will cause differences in the effects on our product.
LOSP treatments can contain copper naphthenate, pyrethroids and organic tin compounds. So there may be adhesion problems with these treatments too. The problem is that the timber company will not tell you (or know!) which particular LOSP formula has been used.
Tributyl tin (one of the substitutes for Copper in LOSP) is an accelerator for the curing reaction, not an inhibitor. So my only answer is to avoid LOSP timber with Builder’s Bog or, if you really wish to use our product for its ease of use, speed and convenience, try a blob on a piece of timber and see if you can lever it off after curing. If strongly adhered, everything is fine.-
Another approach is to buy some of our new product Turbo Rot-Fix. This is a water-based spray, used to harden softened timber before filling. The Builders Bog will then adhere to the LOSP timber after the Rot-Fix dries and cures on the LOSP surface
Thank you for an interesting question
